Glaucoma is an eye disease in which increased pressure inside the eye damages the optic nerve, potentially causing gradual vision loss or blindness.
1. Laser Surgery Laser Trabeculoplasty – Improves drainage of fluid in the eye to lower intraocular pressure. Laser Iridotomy – Creates a small opening in the iris to relieve pressure in angle-closure glaucoma. Cyclophotocoagulation – Reduces fluid production by targeting part of the ciliary body.2. Conventional Surgery Trabeculectomy – Creates a new drainage channel for fluid to lower eye pressure. Glaucoma Drainage Implants (Shunts/Tubes) – Inserted to help drain fluid when other surgeries fail. Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) – Less invasive, quicker recovery, often used alongside cataract surgery. 3. Combination Therapy Medications + Surgery – Eye drops may still be used to optimize intraocular pressure even after surgery. 4. Monitoring and Follow-up Regular eye exams and visual field testing are essential to assess treatment effectiveness and adjust therapy.
